Climate
change

The Earth is getting warmer much faster than ever before. Sea levels are rising, polar ice is melting and weather is becoming less predictable. Nowhere are these impacts being felt more than in the Arctic. As conditions change, Arctic animals and plants are moving further north to find suitable habitat. Eventually, some species will run out of space to expand their ranges.

With these changes, Arctic habitats also become more attractive to southern animals and plants. As southern species move their territories north, they start competing with Arctic species for food sources and present increased potential for the spread of disease.
